Getting to Dumaguete: Every Route, Explained.
Dumaguete sits at the crossroads of the Central Visayas — flights from Manila and Cebu, fast ferries from Siquijor, overnight boats from Cebu City, and a bus-and-ferry combo from southern Cebu. Here's how each route works, what it costs, and which to pick for your situation.
From Manila: Fly direct to Sibulan (DGT), 1h 20m, from ₱1,500. From Cebu: OceanJet fast ferry 4–5 hours from ₱800, or fly 45 minutes from ₱1,500. From Siquijor: Fast ferry 40 minutes, from ₱250. From Bohol: No direct route — via Cebu is fastest. Airport to city: Tricycle 10 minutes, ₱100.
Manila to Dumaguete
Option 1: Fly Direct (Recommended)
Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines operate daily flights from NAIA (Manila) to Sibulan Airport (DGT). Flight time: approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. Fares range from ₱1,500 to ₱5,000 depending on how far in advance you book. Cebu Pacific sales regularly drop below ₱2,000 if you're flexible on dates.
Sibulan Airport is tiny — one terminal, no jet bridges, you walk across the tarmac. It's 3km from the city centre. No need for a pre-arranged transfer — tricycles wait outside arrivals, ₱100–150 to any hotel on Rizal Boulevard, 10 minutes.
Book 4–8 weeks ahead for best fares. Cebu Pacific runs "seat sales" every few weeks — Manila–Dumaguete can drop to ₱999 base fare. Sign up for their email alerts. PAL is slightly pricier but includes checked baggage.
Option 2: Fly via Cebu
If direct flights are sold out, fly Manila to Cebu (1 hour, multiple airlines, from ₱1,200), then either take the short-hop Cebu to Dumaguete flight (45 minutes, from ₱1,500) or the OceanJet ferry. Works well if you want a day or two in Cebu first.
Get an Airalo eSIM — activated before you land
Install a Philippines eSIM before departure. Data works the moment you touch down at Sibulan — no queue at a tiny airport with no guaranteed SIM counter.
